Session 2: Workflow

Today we were provided more information regarding the 'Learn' aspect. Two key things I picked up were, 1. We need to keep up to date with digital practises and be able to provide these for our students. 2. Using a digital tool is not just recreating a paper format. You should be able to enhance and highly engage learners with a greater variety of media, tools and ways of engaging with information. This in turn is providing a greater more engaging learning experience for students. However, this doesn't mean taking away the teacher! As student engagement drops during this lockdown it only highlights this importance.

Google Keep - so handy! This will be great for improving my workflow. I currently just use Sticky Notes on my desktop but this is a much more comprehensive version and I love how it connects to my phone. Some handy shortcuts on calendar (D,M,W) and also assigning tasks to the calendar as another reminder of what needs to be done. For older learners I can see the benefits of scheduling meets with breakout rooms as smaller collaborative groups. It was the first time I had recorded myself in a Google Meet. This would be handy during lockdowns where we can record our meets and share on our class page for others who couldn't make it to enjoy at a later time. This way they don't miss the learning or social connection that has happened.

Again the Google Keep would be great in my personal life, just to get other family members into it too ;) I love keeping checklists so this improved version would be so helpful. Looking forward to 2022 I will be in a new role working with more adults and can see how the calendar will be invaluable in this position, along with Google Meet.

Today for our create stage of our day we created a calendar invite to have a Google Meet with a buddy. We then recorded our meet, presented our screen to share a tab and reflected on a students Blog Post. There were a few new steps to follow so it was a little slow for the first time. You can watch below.

  1. A very valid point about adding value with our digital approach Nicola. I also found the keep to have potential for a reduction in sticky notes on my screens- further exploration required!

  2. Kia ora Nicola, I liked the comment "Using a digital tool is not just recreating a paper format".

  4. Kia ora Nicola,
I love Google Keep! I'm like you and have checklists in my life to keep me organised. I'm so into Keep that I have made headers for each category. Email me if you want the files I have.

  5. Kia ora Nicola,

Some great points in your blog post here. The idea of making sure we are not just using the devices to recreate things we could do with pen and paper is so powerful. Just take that example of the students blog post you were looking at, the gif is so much more engaging for the audience than a labeled diagram of the process. And with the opportunities to connect, from students and others (like Cheryl) is so powerful for our learners. Tomorrow we will look at creating with slides and you never know you might be able to create your own gifs at the end of the day!
